New patio makes Flicka's an E.V. hot spot By KELLY WILSON

Although the East Valley is devoid of a beach, we're certainly not lacking beach- themed bars. Take Flicka's Bar & Grill for example.
The islandlike bar has been a Scottsdale hot spot since December, when it added a 3,000-square-foot patio that overlooks Scottsdale Road.
I hung out here a couple times a few years ago, says Julie Reynolds, 30, of Tempe. I like it better now since it's bigger. The patio reminds me of Sugar Daddy's.
But unlike Sugar Daddy's, Flicka's attracts a more diverse crowd. On a recent Friday night, people from their early 20s to late 40s packed the boardwalk-style patio, which is decorated with tiki torches, colorful lights and small umbrella-covered tables. There's even a bar outdoors, for those wanting to avoid the inside of the venue.
Though the hopping patio is the place to see and be seen, it's normally fairly crowded inside Flicka's as well, especially the dance floor on weekends.
Leopard- and tiger-print chairs are spread throughout the spacious inside of the bar. There's a small stage for live music that is draped in a leopard cover and wooden walls adorned with amusing signs that say things like "drive with caution," "taxi only" and "keep carts on paths today."
There's also a large fish tank, which seems to draw a lot of attention, as well as a few television sets so customers can stay up-to-date on the latest D-Backs score.
Flicka's serves Baja-style food such as fish tacos, fajitas and chicken burritos, which adds to the beach theme. Their food is really good, says Jay McClure, 24, of Scottsdale. This is one of those places that has it all. Good food. Cheap drinks. Hot women. That's pretty much all I want when I go out.
