Cool your Jetz at Scottsdale hangout

An overabundance of pretty boys and plastic-looking (read: lots of surgery) women with caked-on makeup mingle about Jetz Americana on a Monday night. A DJ spins a mix of music from Eminem to B2K to Destiny's Child. At one table, college students are having an intense conversation over some bright crimson martinis. Across the bar, a slew of spiky- haired pierced guys get the party started with a few shots while shouting words of encouragement as they throw them back. Considering it's one of the deadest nights of the week at most bars, Jetz is hoppin'.

It's a good singles, swinging club, says Scottsdale resident Tony Mely, 28, who appears to be channeling Arthur Fonzarelli. If you're a single guy or a girl, then I think this is a decent place to meet someone.

Jetz, which some will remember in its heyday as the Phoenix hot spot Jetz & Stixx, is now located farther north in Scottsdale, where it's almost hidden in a small strip mall off Gold Dust Avenue and Scottsdale Road. There are three bars, including a small bar in the red VIP room (you have to purchase a membership to frequent the VIP room), a decent-size dance floor, a spread-out seating area with tables and booths and 25 flat-screen TVs, which give it a sports bar/club feel.

Jetz serves everything from sandwiches (the rotisserie turkey carver, barbecue pork) to martinis such as the pink lemonade (Bacardi Limon, Cointreau, cranberry juice), the Jetz Set (Smirnoff Raspberry Twist, Apple Pucker, Sprite and cranberry juice) and Lip Service (Smirnoff Raspberry Twist, Chambord, Cointreau, cranberry juice), which are in the $8-$10 range. The club also features desserts such as the vanilla bean crème brûlée ($8) and chocolate-dipped strawberries ($9). Jetz also offers cigars ($6-$20).

Although the bar offers a little something for everyone, for DeLaine Burken, 24, of Scottsdale, it's the staff that keeps her coming back.

The staff is very outgoing and personable, she says. You get a variety here. It's not your mainstream Scottsdale club. You have all the aspects of a Scottsdale club, but the people are outgoing and friendly.

You get the good-looking Scottsdale club without the pretentious club scene, says Jeff Sieve, 26, of Scottsdale.
