Most nightlifers know that when they go out, one drink is never just one drink. It usually turns into four, five and sometimes even six. Before you know it, you're doing shots at the bar with strangers and waxing philosophic. When the bartender hands you a frightening tab which you swear can't be yours at closing time, you're about to go into cardiac arrest.

If this scenario sounds all too familiar, rest assured. Although drinking can be expensive, there are ways to drink on the cheap. So with this in mind, we found a worthy East Valley spot for every night of the week to help you stay within your budget.

Sunday: Landsharks Billiards
You don't have to be a student to enjoy Landsharks Billiards (1112 S. Apache Road, Tempe, ) poor student special, which recently moved from Mondays to Sundays. The Tempe billiards bar offers 25-cent domestic drafts from 8 p.m. to midnight with a $5 cover. There also is a DJ spinning a mix of music.

Monday: The Vine Tavern & Eatery
The Vine Tavern & Eatery (4855 E. Warner Road, Ahwatukee Foothills, ) offers $1 you-call-its on everything from bottles to drafts to well drinks from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. during this cheap drinking night. The Vine offers this special on Wednesdays as well. Cover ranges from $2 to $3.

Tuesday: Saki's Pacific Rim Cafe
People pack Saki's Pacific Rim Cafe (740 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, ) every week to partake in its drink special. From 9 to 10 p.m., people can enjoy $1 well drinks, bottled beer and drafts, along with $3 sake bombers. After 10 p.m., the special increases to $2, and sake bombers are $4. A DJ spins old-school hip-hop music during this time and the dance floor is usually slammed. There's a $5 cover for men.

Wednesday: The Owl's Nest Celebrate hump day with a few drinks at the Owl's Nest (501 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, ). For a $5 cover, customers can enjoy $1 you-call- its from 9 p.m. to midnight as well as a mix of music from hip-hop to rock at the bar or on the dance floor.

Thursday: Tijuana Country Club
Relive the 80s minus the bad hair and fashion trends at Tijuana Country Club (3829 E. Ray Road, Ahwatukee Foothills, ) during its Big 80s Retro Dance Party, at which a DJ brings the era back with retro music. The Ahwatukee hot spot offers free admission and $2 drinks including bottles, drafts and well drinks from 8 to 11 p.m.

Friday: Buzz Funbar
Power 92 personality M.G. broadcasts live during "Madhouse Live" each week during this 18-and-over dance party, where a DJ spins a combination of R&B and hip-hop music. Buzz Funbar (10345 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, ) offers penny drinks for the ladies and two-for-one drinks for men. Admission is free from 8 to 9 p.m. and $8 thereafter. Admission is $10 for those younger than 21. The venue is open until 3:30 a.m.

Saturday: Graham Central Station

Priest Drive, Tempe, ) a club that offers four different themed rooms with something for everyone during its Beat the Clock drink special. It's free to get in from 6 to 8 p.m. with 25-cent well drinks, wine and domestic long necks from 6 to 9:30 p.m. There is a $6 cover after 8 p.m.
