Chandler Ostrich Festival

Ostrich races

The bad news: You and I aren’t allowed to sign up to wrangle the big birds during the ostrich races. The good news: You wouldn’t want to. It’s a job best left to the professional ostrich handlers and riders who’ll be the ones bouncing on the birds – without the comfort of a saddle. So you’ll have to settle for watching and, maybe, a friendly wager among your fellow spectators.

Not enough? Each round of racing also includes ostrich chariot races – think how much more entertaining “Ben-Hur” would have been with that! – and camel races. Start times are 5 p.m. each day, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (view the festival schedule).
