| TV, film star Aisha Tyler returns to the Tempe Improv | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| By Kelly Wilson, Get Out | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| November 15, 2007 | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Actress and comedian Aisha Tyler has an impressive television resume — which also includes roles on “CSI,” “24” and “Boston Legal” — but there’s one show she has yet to sink her teeth into. “I’d like to guest star on 'Entourage,’ ” says the charismatic former E! “Talk Soup” host. “I’d like to play some kind of ice-cold, back-stabbing agent who’s also quite vulnerable and seduces Vinnie (played by Adrian Grenier on the HBO series). … It’s a great show.” Tyler, who can be seen in the comedy film “Balls of Fury” and the indie “Death Sentence,” says her character met an untimely death on CBS’s “Ghost Whisperer” — during the conclusion of the show’s first season — when she decided she wanted to get behind the camera to direct. “I had an idea for a movie that I was really excited about and had a lot of passion for,” she says of preparing to direct her first full-length action feature, which is being produced by international mega-action icon John Woo. “I’m obsessed with action and Hong Kong films, so it was an opportunity to fulfill a dream.” When asked if Tyler could return to “Ghost Whisperer,” she laughs it off. “I’ve definitely crossed over into the light,” she says. “I think there are some rules about that. It might be an impossibility.” Tyler will take a break from film and TV when she returns to the Tempe Improv this weekend. “If you know me from 'Talk Soup,’ then you know my sense of humor,” she says of her stand-up. “I was always myself on 'Talk Soup.’ That show really expressed my stand-up sense of humor. It’s just out there, ballsy, a little naughty. … It’s definitely a show for grown-ups.” Aisha Tyler will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, through Sunday, Nov. 18, with 10 p.m. shows Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Tempe Improv, 930 E. University Drive. $18-$20. (480) 921-9877 or aishatyler.com. Contact Kelly Wilson by email, or phone (480) 898-5691 |
