JAPANESE Ra Sushi Ra Sushi combines high-energy rock and hip-hop jams with an eclectic menu at all five of its East Valley locations — Ahwatukee Foothills, Tempe, downtown Scottsdale, north Scottsdale and Mesa. Ra offers a discounted happy hour menu, marking its food and drinks down $2 to $3. The hours: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (and reverse happy hour 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.) weekdays The food: Edamame $2.50; salmon nigiri and shrimp nigiri $2.75; California roll, spicy tuna roll and spinach gyoza $3; pork gyoza $3.50; Tootsie maki and pineapple wontons $3.75; spicy sesame wings $4; shrimp tempura roll and crispy spicy tuna $4.75. The info: rasushi.com TROPICAL Drift Lounge It feels like a tropical vacation at this downtown Scottsdale Tiki lounge and restaurant that features Polynesian fare — skewers, tacos, coconut chicken — and umbrella-topped cocktails, a bamboo and wooden interior and a massive fish tank. The quaint patio boasts a fireplace and Tiki torches for those wanting to mingle outdoors. The hours: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays The food: Spring rolls and potstickers $3; spare ribs, crab dip and coconut chicken $5; coconut shrimp $6; pupu platter (a bevy of fruit pieces and s’mores to dip in chocolate) $15. You won’t have to cross the border at this Chandler Mexi Grill, which offers cheap eats and drinks in a party environment that comes complete with loud music and body shots. If you really want to get the Mexico vibe, try the flavorful Rocky Point nachos — piled-high chips topped with jack cheese, nacho cheese, black beans, pico, sour cream and guacamole — or the tacos. Food and drinks are marked a few dollars below average price during this time. The hours: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday The food: Selected appetizers including Rocky Point nachos, guacamole and chips, black bean hummus, gringo rolls, tacos, chicken enchilada dip, quesedilla or cheese crisp, queso dip, seven-layer dip and green chili chicken dip are $4. In addition to featuring an array of brews, the Mill Avenue hot spot features a happy hour with offerings such as Irish potato skins (potato jackets topped with rashers and imported Irish cheddar cheese) and boxty canapés (mini potato pancakes topped with smoked salmon, onion capers and sour cream) in a relaxed, warm environment.
