| 2 for $20: Corleone’s cheesesteaks are an offer you can’t refuse | ||||||||||||||||||||||

But along with Sbarro, Panda Express and Hot Dog on a Stick, there also soon will be some first-in-Arizona restaurants, such as California sandwich shop Submarina and Greek eatery Opa Souvlaki. The biggest attraction, though, might be recently opened Corleone’s, since Philly cheesesteak fans in the south East Valley no longer have to trek to Corleone’s locations in downtown Tempe or north Scottsdale to get their Whiz fix. The mood: SanTan Cafes isn’t your typical mall food court. The huge steel-and-glass structure feels like an atrium. There are two-top and four-top tables with chairs — no fixed seating here — and 4-foot-high walls break up the expansive space into smaller areas. Corleone’s is just inside the food court’s southern entrance, across from a large parking lot. Similar to Corleone’s nonmall locations, you order and pay at the counter, then take a table until your number is called. The food: The menu includes four varieties of sandwiches made with rib-eye steak, four with marinated chicken steak, three with deli meats, one with albacore tuna and one with veggies. All are available in 12-inch ($7.99) and 6-inch ($5.99) sizes. The Philly Original “Whiz Wit” is the most popular, and it’s easy to taste why. The delicious steak, thin-shaved and slightly greasy, warms the Whiz to the point of runniness. It also comes with grilled onions and is served on a soft hoagie. The Under Boss chicken steak sandwich, with provolone and grilled onions, isn’t quite as juicy, but still tastes pretty good. For an extra $1.80, we turn both 6-inch sandwiches into combo meals, which include huge helpings of thick-cut french fries and drinks. The drinks: Fountain sodas are included in the combo price. The damage: $18.98. With a new Harkins theater right next door, we know where we’d be getting our pre-movie snacks. Popcorn — even the hot-buttered theater kind — just doesn’t compare to a good Philly cheesesteak like Corleone’s. 2 FOR $20 Corleone’s2268 E. As any real Philadelphian can tell you, you don't do wiz. It's not even real, try it with american cheese. The way Corleone's makes it, the cheese melts real good and it tastes even better. This place is the only one to make a real cheeese steak in the valley and beyond. Suggest removal of this commentApril 5, 2008

Corleone's steaks are great!! American cheese is the way to go!!! Question: Will Corleone's add more shops?, say in Glendale,AZ? I live here and we have nothing like Corleone's. Maybe you can open one at Arrowhead, "Restaurant Row" Suggest removal of this commentAugust 1, 2008
