Mesa actress Christina Rae Stewart says there's a distinct advantage to being directed by her sister, fellow Valley stage thespian and Desert Rose Theatre owner Katherine Stewart.

"We know each other, how our communication styles are," Christina Rae says, "and so she'll just have to say, like, two words."

Katherine adds, laughing: "And sometimes she'll tell me, 'Too many words.'"

The duo have made magic in productions including "Romeo and Juliet" and "Lady Windermere’s Fan" at Desert Rose, and they're two of this season's picks for local theater's Most Valuable Players.

Here, a 2006 interview with the sisters (and the mother who raised them), conducted by Get Out theater critic Chris Page. Click on the media player at the right to listen.
