Death Cab For Cutie to play Mesa Amphitheatre

Alt-rock “it” boys Death Cab For Cutie will return to the Valley for the first time in two years when the band plays an outdoor gig at the downtown Mesa Amphitheatre (263 N. Center St.) on Thursday, June 19.

Formerly signed to indie label Barsuk Records, Death Cab For Cutie signed with major label Atlantic Records for 2005’s breakthrough disc “Plans,” which hit No. 4 on the Billboard album charts and featured the Top 10 modern rock singles “When Soul Meets Body” and “Crooked Teeth.” To date, “Plans” is closing in on platinum-selling status, remarkable for a band who was considered underground just five years ago.

Death Cab For Cutie’s new disc, titled “Narrow Stairs,” will be released in May.

Tickets for the Mesa Amphitheatre show, priced at $32, go on 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at ticketmaster.com.
