Local spotlight: Scottsdale actress turns TV fashionista

After a year at Arizona State University, Erika Schaefer left for Los Angeles to pursue acting. Despite never trying the craft, she was convinced it was her passion. Turns out the 20-year-old Scottsdale native was right.

“When I was younger I liked to start something and not finish it, so my dad wasn’t so sure about me leaving for L.A. He convinced me to take three weeks of acting lessons here first to make sure I liked it before leaving,” she says. “It’s a big deal that I finished this.”

Well, she’s not done, but Schaefer got a great start with a supporting role in “Fashion House” for her first acting job. The 65-episode series stars Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild as fashion executives, and Schaefer plays Lexi, Derek’s assistant.

The “Devil Wears Prada”-ish show isn’t your typical once-a-week gig. The My Network show premieres a new episode each night at 8 Monday through Friday.

“Because it’s based on this telenovela from Cuba, it has a beginning and an end,” Schaefer says.

Schaefer says she’ll be back in Los Angeles to audition for future television and film roles in a couple of weeks.
