Summer Spectacular ArtWalk

Hosted by the Scottsdale Gallery Association, the largest ArtWalk event of the summer — expected to draw 5,000 people — will include music by longtime Valley entertainer Walt Richardson, indie rocker Jeordie, the laid-back keyboard sounds of Gradymusic and four up-and-coming Valley singer-songwriters. You'll get free samples from China Myst teas, Naked Juice and Daphne's Greek Cafe, and you can try winning $250 by guessing how much money is trapped in a giant saguaro cactus ice sculpture. “It's just a wonderful way to see some great art, enjoy great music and get out for the evening,” says gallery association president Kathy Duley. Here's a sampling of gallery exhibits:
VESSLEY FINE ART
The movies ‘‘Benji’’ and ‘‘Scooby-Doo’’ will be shown as nationally acclaimed canine artist Ron Burns signs copies of his book, ‘‘The Dogs of Ron Burns.’’ The Scottsdale painter, who's the Humane Society's artist-in-residence, also will sign his new limited-edition print, ‘‘Family Outing’’ (featured on Get Out's cover in March). Known for his brightly colored acrylic pet portraits, Burns donates a portion of every sale to rescue shelters and other animal causes.
Where: 4164 N. Marshall Way
DULEY-JONES GALLERY
Duley's gallery celebrates its fourth anniversary with live glass-sculpting demonstrations by artist Carole Perry. “She is a local artist that does glass tapestries, which are layered strands of glass that are heated and shaped,” Duley says. Northern Arizona artist and deputy sheriff Robert Brubaker will be on hand to show off his whimsical statues of dogs dressed like police officers.
Where: 7100 Main St.
LESLIE LEVY FINE ART
“Summer Symphony” features a display of paintings centering on the theme of summertime, including Francis Livingston's abstract oil paintings of days gone by. “He enjoys painting nostalgic scenes, whether of the city or old theaters or amusement parks with roller coaster rides,” says gallery owner Leslie Levy. Art by Arizona landscape painter Stephen Morath, as well as bird paintings by artist Matt Mitchell and seascapes by Laurence Sisson, will be on display.
Where: 7137 Main St.
TRAILSIDE GALLERIES
“Sacred Places” highlights the church architecture. Artist Elaine Coffee's oil painting “Reflections in the Duomo” is a prime example. “Elaine is an urban painter who paints interiors in museums and cafes,” gallery director Joan Griffith says. “This is the interior of the Duomo . . . in Florence, Italy.” John Budchin's “Night Light” renders the scaffolding on the exterior of a church that is typical in Europe. Buck McCain's painting “San Xavier” portrays the famous church in Tucson.
Where: 7330 Scottsdale Mall
BONNER DAVID GALLERIES
“The Art History Lesson” is a murallike painting made by students in Jennifer Estes' third-grade class at Navajo Elementary School in Scottsdale. The kids created the work over a period of three months, says gallery co-owner Christi Bonner Manuelito, whose 9-year-old son, Sonny, was part of the class. “Each of the 28 children had their own square on the canvas to recreate an art masterpiece,” Manuelito says. Their renditions included inspired works by van Gogh, Monet, da Vinci, Picasso and more.
