Scottsdale may be a ways from Milan, but Thursday night Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art will be going high fashion for Heat.

Part of the museums Summer Nights series, the event will feature a runway extravaganza showcasing fashions from some of the Valleys hottest designers including Angela Johnson, Art Matthews, Shelly Cluff, Bill Berry, Casey Pearson and Galina Mihaleva. Hip threads from Contra Mondo by Susan Di Staulo, Apriba by Allison Baker, LuLu Belles by Louise Jay and Material by Meredith Elliot will also be featured.

A lot of people dont realize that there are even local designers at all, much less 10 of them, Johnson says. (Heat) is the only chance to see (all) 10 show their work all at once.

Music will be provided by DJ Maji and DJ Snail. Guests can enjoy free hors doeuvres and a cash bar and enter to win prizes from Scottsdale eatery Mika, Skyy Vodka and La Grande Orange Grocery in Phoenix. Folks can also check out the museums current exhibits, including SouthwestNET: Architecture and Design, featuring work by architects and designers from throughout the Southwest, and Lee Bul: Live Forever.

Buls exhibit, on display through Aug. 17, features two slick, futuristic car pods designed by the South Korean native. The cars also double as karaoke booths, in which visitors can sing along to 36 different tunes, including Van Morrisons Brown Eyed Girl and Oasis Live Forever, from which the shows name is derived.

Johnson says both of SMoCAs exhibits will be incorporated into the fashion show.

Each designer has been told to go with an architecture and graphic design theme in addition to somehow using the karaoke cars. It will be interesting to see how each designer interprets the themes.
