Quality, not quantity, impresses at Bar 74 in Scottsdale

Get Out

The spot: Bar 74, 7443 E. Sixth Ave., Scottsdale

Happy hour: 3 to 7 p.m. daily

The vibe: Guns ’N’ Roses’ ‘‘Welcome to the Jungle’’ is blaring on the jukebox when we step inside Bar 74 at 6 p.m. on a Friday. There are only about 10 people in the small, un-Scottsdale-like bar. Two guys, who appear to be in their 30s, play pool in a corner; there's also a dart board and a couple of golf video games.

The food deals: $2 off appetizers, which include buffalo wings, sloppy ‘‘chos’’ chips (nachos), potato skins, chili cheese fries, firehouse chili, onion rings and chips and hatch chili salsa.

The drink deals: $2.50 domestic bottles, $3 well drinks and premium drafts. The review: We were disappointed with the small selection of appetizers, but the quality made up for it. The nachos, which are smothered in cheese and sour cream, are delicious. The onion rings were equally tasty. We also tried the B-74 Pulled Chicken Club ($9), which is not a happy hour special. The sandwich — packed with cheddar, bacon and avocado — was our favorite item. It comes with a side of seasoned french fries. We washed everything down with a Washington Apple martini.

The inside scoop: The bar hosts a ladies night from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesdays with $3 martinis. They also offer $2 PBRs daily.
