Club-hopping stimulating your appetite? Try these bars for after-party food

It's 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and Ryan Lavery and Mary Swenson have a severe case of the munchies after four hours of club-hopping in downtown Scottsdale. And from the looks of the 30 other people inside Mickey's Hangover, they're not alone.

The two women share memories of the night as they scarf down a mountain of cheese fries at Mickey's, a downtown bar that serves food until 4 a.m. on weekends.

“Thank God for food,’’ Lavery, 23, of Scottsdale, says as she plays with one of her french fries. “I would be at home either passed out or sick if I weren't here. We partied a little too hard but at least we have some greasy food to help soak up all of the alcohol we consumed.’’

“I blame it on the bars closing so late,’’ says 24-year-old Swenson of Chandler, who's taking large gulps of water. “We probably should have started later but we got going around 10 ... Thankfully, Mickey's stays open late. (Mickey's) is usually our savior at the end of the night. Everyone needs a good place to sober up when the bars close.’’

Mickey's Hangover (4310 N. Brown Ave., Scottsdale, ) offers an eclectic menu with items like the grilled cheese, B.L.T., Santa Fe green chile chicken rolls as well as a variety of pizzas. While Mickey's — which closes at 3 a.m. on most weeknights — keeps its doors open until almost sunrise on weekend nights, a number of bars serve food until 2 a.m. nightly. Keep these places in mind the next time you need a meal at closing time:

Dos Gringos (4209 N. Craftsman Court, Scottsdale, ) and Dos Gringos Trailer Park (1001 E. Eighth St., Tempe, ) serve cantina-style food including tacos, flautas, Mexican pizzas and Sloppy Dip (chili con queso, black beans, sour cream, pico de gallo and tortilla chips), a Dos favorite.

When Flip Flops Island Grill House (222 E. University Drive, Tempe, ) expanded by taking over the old Dos Gringos Trailer Park location, it beefed up its menu. Items include the jamming jerk island wings, Jamaican pizza and Natty Dread nachos.

Classy sports bar Fox & Hound Pub & Grill (1017 E. Baseline Road, Gilbert, ), which attracts customers from their 20s to 60s, features an extensive menu with items such as jerk chicken, chili cheese dogs and Hawaiian sticky ribs.

New north Scottsdale bar Sandbar Mexican Grill (10050 N. Scottsdale Road, ) — which features a sand-covered patio and tequila bar — serves up fresh Mexican cuisine such as grilled vegetable enchiladas, a Sandbar chimi and tequila chicken sandwich. Customers at
Sugar Daddy's (3102 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, ) can enjoy a late-night menu with dishes including the cheese crisp, deli turkey club, sliders and Caesar salad.

Unlike the other bars on this list, Scottsdale cantina The Salty Señorita (3636 N. Scottsdale Road, ) serves food until 2 a.m. on weekend nights only. It serves food until 10 p.m. on weeknights.
