Crab rangoon stands out at Malee's in Scottsdale

Get Out
The spot: Malee's on Main, 7131 E. Main St., Scottsdale
Happy hour: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday
The vibe: Although the restaurant portion of Malee's is packed, the bar area — where happy hour is offered — is pretty quiet early on a Friday night. Aside from us and the male bar staff, there is a young couple sitting in the corner of the bar and that's as crowded as it gets during our 90-minute visit. Colorful artwork decorates Malee's walls, which is fitting, considering the restaurant is in the middle of the Scottsdale gallery district.
The food deals: Discounted appetizers include $4 crab rangoon, $5 Thai chicken wings, lettuce wraps, spicy pla (fish) bites and sesame noodles.
The drink deals: $2 domestic beers, well drinks; $3 Singha beer, house wines and Cosmos.
The review: The delicious lettuce wraps come with a seasoned chicken mix and lettuce to wrap it in. They have a mild kick and a peppery seasoning that stands out from other wraps we've tried. We love the crab rangoon — pastry puffs stuffed with cream cheese — so much that we request a second order. We also try the tasty coconut ice cream ($4), which isn't on the happy hour menu, but is a nice way to top off the meal. Though we like the appetizers we try, Malee's entrées blow the small and tame dishes out of the water so be sure to try a lunch or dinner item in order to get the full Thai experience.
The inside scoop: There is also a Malee's at Desert Ridge, 21001 N. Tatum Blvd., .
