Mulliganís offers tasty eats but canít sink hole-in-one

Get Out

The spot: Mulligan’s Sports Grill at Western Skies Golf Club, 1245 E. Warner Road, Gilbert Happy hour: 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

The vibe: Golfers and their families fill the Gilbert bar at the Western Skies Golf Club on an early Friday evening. We’re half-expecting to find Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore” character here, but it never happens. A rowdy table filled with five men who look to be in their 40s talk sports at a table behind us, while a couple of young twentysomething women discuss their swing at a nearby table. Mulligan’s features a popcorn machine, shuffleboard, a jukebox, a quaint bar and the Golden Tee (which is fitting here) video golf game. Several TVs are spread throughout the bar.

The food deals: Half-off appetizers

The drink deals: $1.50 16 oz. drafts and bottles; $1.75 well drinks

The review: The delicious sliders come in an order of six juicy petite hamburgers and are served with lettuce, tomatoes and onion fixings. The chicken quesadilla is filled with pieces of chicken and oozes with melted cheese. Although it’s tasty, it’s a run-of-the-mill quesadilla and doesn't impress us. We love the boneless teriyaki wings, which are a unique happy hour appetizer. Although the food is good, it’s not enough to send us running back to G- town anytime soon — unless of course we decide to take up golf.

The inside scoop:
Mulligan’s is available to rent for weddings, banquets, receptions and other special events.
