Arizona Roadhouse is a whole lot of country

Get Out

The spot: Arizona Roadhouse, 140 W. Warner Road, Chandler

Happy hour:
3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday

The vibe: When we stop by the Chandler bar, an East Valley country bar, on an early Friday evening, we quickly realize we're out of our element. Twangy country beats play through stereo speakers, and about 20 people who look to be in their 20s to 50s are spread out around the large bar. A lot of them are wearing wranglers and cowboy boots, not surprisingly. We even see — gasp! — a mullet. The bar features several televisions, a stage for live music (we're guessing country!), a decent-sized patio, a couple of pool tables and a Golden Tee video game. The food deals: $3 appetizer menu

The drink deals:
$2 well, wine, drafts and domestic bottles

The review: The meatloaf sliders, which come in an order of three, are large and packed with mozzarella and meatloaf. We've seen a lot of sliders during our happy-hour travels, but these are the first meatloaf ones we've come across. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of flavor to them. Unlike the sliders, the fries burst with seasoning. They're loaded with melted cheddar and are topped with a dollop of sour cream. They also come with a side of salsa. There isn't anything extraordinary about the nachos, which are covered in melted cheese, shredded beef, green onions and diced tomatoes. And the large amount of beef is a little overwhelming.

Considering we're not hip to the country scene and the food wasn't anything special, we won't be boot-scootin’ to Arizona Roadhouse anytime soon.

The inside scoop:
The bar features live bands at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturdays.
