Stadium Club strikes out with smoke, average food

Get Out

The spot: Stadium Club, 2060 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler

Happy hour: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday

The vibe: There are televisions everywhere — including personal TVs in every booth — at the Stadium Club, a sports bar located in a Chandler strip mall. TVs display various sporting events and every now and then we hear loud shouts from people cheering on their teams on an early Friday evening. Thick clouds of smoke waft through the bar and before long we smell as if we've smoked 10 packs of cigarettes and are in dire need of a shower.

The food deals:
Discounted appetizers

The drink deals:
50 cents off well, domestic and wine

The review: The nachos are served in a large order and are sloshed in cheese and garnished with peppers and small bits of tomatoes. They don't leave much of an impression. We can only handle nibbling on a few of the overly greasy chips. The combination platter — a fried mix of zucchini, mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips and onion rings — is equally greasy. The platter offers a tasty sampler of the various appetizers on the menu, but it's hard to go wrong with any of these items since they're typical bar menu staples.

We don't see a return visit to the Stadium Club in the near future because nothing struck us about the bar. The food is run-of-the-mill. The service is adequate at best (it took our server nearly 15 minutes to return with the check). And the heavy smoke rings leave us with a headache and smelling like a bowling alley.

The inside scoop: The sports bar offers off-track betting.
