Salmon sliders work their magic at Voodoo Daddy's

Get Out
The spot: Voodoo Daddy's Magic Kitchen & Bar, 1706 E. Warner Road, Tempe Happy hour: 3 to 7 p.m. daily in the bar
The vibe: We feel like we're at Joe's Crab Shack when we step into Voodoo Daddy's — a Tempe strip mall gem — on a Friday evening. Maybe it's the roll of paper towels at each booth or maybe it's the festive atmosphere, but we can't help but compare the two. Colorful lights decorate the bar, while beads are randomly strewn about to give Voodoo Daddy's a Mardi Gras twist. As a result, we find ourselves yearning for New Orleans and half-expecting to see a bead-hungry young woman flash someone.
The food deals: The discounted menu includes a $2.99 BBQ beef sandwich, chili fries, chicken taquitos and chicken and sausage gumbo; $3.99 Cajun poppers, shrimp skewers, salmon sliders and popcorn shrimp; $4.95 wings.
The drink deals: $1 off all bottled beer, drafts, well drinks and house wine.
The review: We wish that Voodoo Daddy's was closer to our abode because we would be frequenting it way more often. We love almost everything we try. The BBQ beef sandwich, which is large and packed with beef smothered in barbecue sauce, is zesty. Although we're not watching our carbs, we barely touch the roll and savor the meat. The salmon sliders — four grilled salmon bites that are sprinkled with pepper seasoning and a tartar sauce — are full of flavor. We'll be back for more of these treats. The only thing we're not fond of are the homemade potato chips, which we found to be pretty bland. The inside scoop: Voodoo Daddy's also has a Phoenix location at 4326 E. Cactus Road, .
