East Valley bars and clubs get in the Halloween spirit

This Halloween, the nightlife options are endless. We narrowed the list — to make life easier on our club-going readers — and highlighted some of our favorite happenings. Keep these in mind when you want to get your spook on Halloween weekend.

Anderson’s Fifth Estate
6820 E. Fifth Ave., Scottsdale,
KMXP 96.9 FM will host a live broadcast on Saturday night during the dance club's Halloween ’80s Fashion Faux Paux Party. There will be prizes for best ’80s costume and best overall costume and of course ’80s dance music. The party is from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Cover is $5.

Axis/Radius

Suede
7307 E. Indian Plaza, Scottsdale,
Downtown Scottsdale dance club Axis/Radius will join forces with neighboring lounge Suede to host its third annual Ghost Ball Block Party Saturday. ’80s cover band Fast Times (from Los Angeles) and heavy metal cover band Metal Ikon. There will also be a costume contest (best overall costume will be awarded $2,000 and best group and the sexiest costume will score $500). Doors open at 7 p.m. Cover is $20-$30.

Barcelona Scottsdale
15440 N. Greenway Hayden Loop,
Costume-attired patrons will receive a complimentary glass of champagne at the north Scottsdale restaurant and bar — which will be transformed into a ghostly castle — during its Veuve Cliquot Champagne Party Saturday. Champagne will be half-price all night and there will be a costume contest with a $500 award for first place and a $250 award to second- and third-place winners. The party starts at 8:30 p.m. Cover is $10 for men and there is no cover for women.

The Clubhouse
1320 E. Broadway, Tempe,
The Tempe music venue — which recently expanded to a 1,000-capacity, two-stage room — will host a Halloween Freakness Ball from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. Valley rock acts Arvins Garden, Fred Green, Simplfy, Dimonet, Ember Coast, Bullet Train to Moscow and Forgotten Lifestyle are among the 14 acts who will take the stage. There will also be a Suspension and Piercing Show by Body Art Tattoo, a Freaky Hair Runway Show by Toni & Guy and prizes and giveaways for best costumes. Cover is $8-$10 for the all-ages show.

Dos Gringos Trailer Park
1001 E. Eighth St., Tempe,
The Halloween fun will be held 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the two-story Sun Devil watering hole. On Saturday, the bar will host a costume contest and the person decked out in the best Halloween threads will win a cruise for two to Mexico. The second-place winner will receive a seven-day vacation to Mazatlan. Southern Comfort drinks will be on special for $3 throughout the night. There is no cover.

Dos Gringos
4209 N. Craftsman Court, Scottsdale,
The Scottsdale location will hold a Halloween Bash from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and a costume contest on Sunday (the winner will score a trip for two to Mexico). The bar will offer $3 brews throughout the night. There is no cover.

Drift
4341 N. 75th St., Scottsdale,
Drift — a downtown Scottsdale tiki bar — will hold its second annual Pirates and Wenches costume party Saturday. There will be a costume contest at midnight and the patron attired in the best costume will receive a $2,500 makeover from Rejuvalift. There is no cover.

Harold’s Cave Creek Corral
6895 E. Cave Creek, Cave Creek,
Cash prizes will be awarded to those dressed in the scariest, most creative and funniest Halloween costume Saturday at Harold's Halloween Bash. Other festivities include live music by Valley country act Mogollon at 9 p.m., drink specials, giveaways and door prizes. The ghoulish fun starts at 8:30 p.m. There is no cover if you come attired in a costume. Otherwise, the cover is $3.

Mickey's Hangover
4312 N. Brown Ave., Scottsdale,
Martini Ranch
7295 E. Stetson Drive, Scottsdale,
The two downtown Scottsdale clubs will host Salem Lot Parties in their parking lots and inside. Heavy metal cover band Metalhead will perform at Martini Ranch along with Big Tex and the Blazin’ Pintos, Chrome 9, Rock Lobster and DJ Roach (from Valley rap rock favorites the Phunk Junkeez). There will also be costume contests with prizes including a trip for two to the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas (at Mickey's) and a trip for two to Mardi Gras (at Martini Ranch) and drink specials at both bars. Gates will open at 3 p.m. for the festivities. Advance tickets are $15 for both lot parties (www.fullmooneventsaz.com for tickets) and $10 the night of the event for each party.

Sugar Daddy’s
3102 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale,
Sugar Daddy's will feature a Halloween event-filled weekend. Patrons are invited to carve pumpkins at the bar on Thursday (the bar is supplying the pumpkins). Drink specials will include $3 domestic beers, $3.50 imports, $4 call drinks and $5 well drinks. Big Pete Pearson will perform from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. The pumpkin carving begins at 9 p.m. and there is a $2 cover.

The bar will host a costume party from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with drink specials ($2 Southern Comfort shots, $3 Guinness bottles, $5 Southern Comfort Hurricanes and Yards (large Hurricane drinks) and entertainment (DJs and a band) throughout the night. There will also be a costume contest on Sunday (the winner will receive a cruise for two to Mexico). There is a $2 cover after 8:30 p.m.
Sugar Daddy’s will also host a Halloween Brunch on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with $3 monster Mimosas, a $4 make-your-own Bloody Mary bar and $12 all-you-can-eat brunch buffet. Songstress Tina Bailey will perform from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cover.

The Pussycat Lounge
4426 N. Saddlebag Trail, Scottsdale,
The bar is giving trick-or-treaters the first drink on the house Sunday and then they'll feature two-for-one drinks until 10 p.m. and a costume contest at midnight with cash prizes for the first- and second-place winners. Third place will receive a $25 Patsy Grimaldi's gift certificate. The top two winners will also receive a credited part in “Vampire Slayers,’’ a New Breed Productions upcoming film. Doors open at 8 p.m. There is no cover.

The Salty Señorita
3636 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale,
The cantina will host Salty's Spooktacular Weekend with $5 mummy (house) margaritas throughout the weekend and a pumpkin ring toss and pumpkin basketball on the patio from 6 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, the bar will hold a costume contest with a $100 prize for best male and female costume and best couple costume at 11 p.m. There will be a jack-o-lantern contest on Sunday and the first 25 people to bring in a pre-carved pumpkin can get margaritas for a penny. The winner of the best and most creative pumpkin will receive a $100 Salty Señorita gift certificate. The fun starts at 6 p.m. both nights. There is no cover.

The Sets
93 E. Southern Ave., Tempe,
Belly dancers, jugglers, tarot card readers and dream interpreters will be part of the entertainment at The Sets Friday when Trash City — an entertainment promotions company — throws their Halloween party. There will also be live music by Valley acts The Strand, Radiance, The Cover Up and Smee, a piercing display by Halo Piercing and a tattoo display by Artistic Tattoo. Prizes will be awarded to those in the most unusual and best costumes. The party starts at 8 p.m. Cover is $10 to the all-ages party.

KEDJ (103.9) FM will present a Halloween show at the bar on Saturday. National rockers Lit and Denver Harbor will perform along with Valley acts Cold Fusion, Greeley Estates, Redfield and Resist the Embrace, who will be celebrating the release of their new album. The all-ages show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 in advance (at Zia Records locations) and $15 day of the show.
