Steamy star, East Valley resident Jenna Jameson dishes on celebrity, book and kids By KELLY WILSON
Get Out
Carrying on a phone conversation with Jenna Jameson is like talking to one of your girlfriends about guys, shopping and clubs.
Only this friend happens to be the biggest adult superstar in the world.
You know, the one “Rolling Stone” magazine claims put the star in porn star. The one Howard Stern constantly raves about. And the one who lives in our very own East Valley — Paradise Valley, to be exact.
“I love it here,’’ says Jameson, who was born in Las Vegas. “(Paradise Valley) is kind of in the middle of everything. I hate L.A. I lived there for four years and it was hard for me to concentrate on building my business.
‘‘My husband's family lived here in Arizona and we came out here to visit them and I didn't want to leave. I just love the people here. I love the attitudes. It's a very laid-back sort of thing ... I'm a desert bunny.’’
The sweet-demeanored, self-professed shopaholic says she doesn't spend nearly as much time in P.V. as she would like.
“Two weeks out of every month,’’ she says with a sigh. “If I'm lucky.’’
And when she does go out in town, Jameson tends to attract attention.
“People recognize me because I drive a yellow Lamborghini,’’ she says. “I can't go anywhere. I have people following me screaming, ‘We love you, Jenna!’ I'm trying to drive my Range Rover more often so people don't follow me everywhere.’’
After releasing a plethora of adult films, Jameson recently put out a book, “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star’’ — which is currently No. 10 on the New York Times best seller list — to share her story with the world and let them know that there's more to the stunning blonde than good looks.
“I think the title is a little misleading if you don't know anything about me,’’ she says. “This book is my autobiography. For me, it was kind of like a healing process — writing this book — because I've been through a lot of really crazy things in my life and I turned 30 this year and it was just kind of my way of letting all of these crazy things out.
“I think a lot of women out there need to relate a little bit more when it comes to having horrible things happen in their life. I have a lot of female fans and they always tell me, 'I love you and I want to be just like you.'
So I thought it was important to let them know the whole story. I'm looked upon as a sexual being and that's about all so that's what writing this book has changed. People are starting to see me in a different light, as a normal human being.’’
Jameson would also like to clear up a misconception about adult stars.
“People think that we're nymphomaniacs and it's totally untrue,’’ she says. “Most of us are married and live very quiet lives. Usually the contract stars in the industry only work once or twice a year so we're not oversexed. And most of us are very good business women and very intelligent. We take what we do very seriously.’’
Jameson and a slew of her adult film star friends will take over Scottsdale night club Myst Thursday for the fourth annual Club Jenna bash.
“It's crazy,’’ she says with a mischievous laugh. “We usually do a party every year. It's kind of a way that I give thanks to the Phoenix public. Everybody's so good to me. Nobody looks at me like a porn star. They just look at me like a celebrity.
‘‘Every year we do a party and usually get a turnout of over 2,000 people. It's usually just out of control. We have a really good time, sign autographs and go crazy.’’
Now that she's conquered the adult film world, Jameson says she has a few more tricks up her sleeve. “I just signed with Elite Model Management,’’ she says. “I'm hoping to take over the fashion world, too. My first love is being photographed so now I'm venturing out into the fashion/ mainstream photography world. Nobody in my industry has ever done that so I'm looking forward to trying my hand at it.”
And although she's tried her hand at acting, Jameson says she prefers the adult film industry.
“I've turned down a lot of different mainstream roles only because a lot of the times the roles I get offered are love scenes or the naked girl role,’’ she says. “I figure if I do that, why not just do an adult movie and own it?’’
Jameson is also working out details to possibly host her own talk show.
“I love Ellen DeGeneres,’’ she says. “Part of the reason why is that she's overcome so much having come out of the closet and announcing that she's gay. I think in order to be a daytime talk show host, it seems like you have to be so clean cut and have no controversy and for her to succeed, it's pretty cool.’’
She also wants to leave the adult film industry behind and eventually start a family with her husband.
“We're trying really hard,’’ says Jameson, who wants to have a daughter.
“I've always said that when I do get pregnant, I won't be doing adult anymore. I'll certainly further my mainstream career and still run my company and still produce movies, but I won't be in front of the camera.’’
And what if one of her daughters wanted to follow in her adult film star path?
“I'd lock them in the closet,’’ she says, laughing. “It's not something that I would ever choose for my child. I don't think any father or mother ever would.
‘‘I think it'll be really important to explain to them, it's not just all glamour and glitz. It's a very hard career path. That's for sure. You have to fight every single day to get the respect that you do ... It's not something I would want my daughter to have to go through.’’
Her favorite joints:
Restaurant: Maestro's. “I love the food.’’
Clubs: “I'm not a big clubber but if I do go out I usually hit Myst or the Pussycat Lounge.’’
Shopping: Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. “I'm kind of a fixture there. I have my own parking space. It's frightening. I also shop a lot at Electric Ladyland, and there's this store in Kierland Commons called Mahsa that is amazing.’’
Favorite mall store: Louis Vuitton. “If anybody ever wants to find me, go to the Fashion Square Mall in the Louis Vuitton store. I'm there every day.’’
Favorite lake: Saguaro Lake. “I water ski a lot so we go out there.’’
