New Found Glory singer plans to call East Valley home

Although his band is from Florida, New Found Glory frontman Jordan Pundik soon may be an East Valley resident.

Pundik met his fiancee — a Valley resident — at a Tucson Olive Garden in 2001.

“We're actually planning on moving to Arizona next year,’’ Pundik says. “Probably somewhere in north Scottsdale in, like, the hills somewhere. ... Every time I'm there I have a good time. There's a lot of good bands from out there, so there's always shows going on.’’

Pundik is familiar with a couple of Valley bands. His pop-punk group has shared the stage with Jimmy Eat World “a bunch of times,” and The Format's Nate Ruess and Sam Means used to open for NFG with their old band, nevergonnascore.

Since releasing the self-titled major-label debut five years ago, Pundik says New Found Glory's climb to success has been gradual.

“When we started our band, I didn't expect to have three gold records,’’ he says. “I didn't even expect to play out of Florida. ... To me, it's like baby steps.’’

One of those baby steps was a March appearance on NBC's “The Apprentice.” The show's contestants were challenged to auction a personal experience with musicians.

“It was kind of weird,’’ Pundik says. “I didn't really know what was going on at the time.’’

The band released its third album, “Catalyst,” last year. It is the first to feature new addition James Dewees, frontman for Reggie and the Full Effect.

“We would play shows with his old band, The Get Up Kids, and open shows for them,’’ Pundik recalls.

“He had some extra time so he came on tour with us and now he’s fully in the band. He’s pulling double duty on this tour!”
